Motorcycle fatalities include the total number of motorcyclists and their passengers suffering fatal injuries in a motor vehicle traffic crash on Florida’s roadways within 30 days of the crash. Motorcycle serious injuries account for the total number of motorcyclists and their passengers suffering at least one disabling injury in a motor vehicle traffic crash on Florida’s roadways during a calendar year.

The motorcycle fatalities are the total number of motorcyclists and/or their passengers killed in a traffic crash on Florida's roadways within 30 days of the crash. The motorcycle serious injuries are the total number of incapacitating injuries sustained by motorcyclists and/or their passengers in a traffic crash on Florida's roadways.

Definitions

Definitions: Motorcycle Fatalities and Serious Injuries

  • Motorcycle: A motor vehicle with a seat or saddle for the driver's use, traveling with no more than three wheels in contact with the ground, excluding tractors and Mopeds.
  • Number of fatalities: Total number of people killed on roadways as a direct result of a traffic crash within thirty days of the crash occurrence.
  • Number of serious injuries: Total number of disabling/incapacitating injuries (such as broken bones, severed limbs, etc.) from traffic crashes that prevent the injured individuals from engaging in normal activities and that usually require hospitalization and transport to a medical facility.
  • Reporting Period
    • Yearly: Includes all the calendar days in a year.
